One of the most beautiful songs in the world, speaking of God’s love – performed here by Mercy Me. This is one of my dad’s favorites. He would sing it often in church and I remember old Mrs. Bly would request it of him often.
God’s love speaks to His glory: that He would love sinful man – enough to die to redeem him. The Father sent the Son to bring us salvation and His Spirit testifies the light has come into the world ( John 1:1-14 ). John tells us [1Jo 4:19]: if( ‘we love Him’ ) { ‘because He first loved us’; }. One day, God’s glory and righteousness will be manifest to all mankind when every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord – to the glory of God the Father. [Php 2:10-11]
THE LOVE OF GOD
by Frederick M. Lehman, 1917
The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star,
And reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled,
And pardoned from his sin.
Oh, love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure—
The saints’ and angels’ song.
When hoary time shall pass away,
And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
When men who here refuse to pray,
On rocks and hills and mountains call,
God’s love so sure, shall still endure,
All measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race—
The saints’ and angels’ song.
Oh, love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure—
The saints’ and angels’ song.
Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.
